Beirne Lane upgrade - Fortitude Valley

Brisbane City Council is undertaking construction works to upgrade Beirne Lane in Brunswick Street Mall, Fortitude Valley, between Wickham Street and Ann Street, in partnership with DMC Projects. The works will commence in mid-October 2019.

The upgrade is part of Brisbane City Council's commitment to creating new lifestyle and leisure opportunities and delivering vibrant, liveable communities.

The project is expected to be completed by late November 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.

About the project

Construction works will include:

  • removing existing paving bricks
  • installing a new concrete footpath with footpath drainage
  • removing and replacing existing manhole covers
  • installing a new artwork as part of the City of Lights Strategy.

The artwork is a a three-dimensional star form which is approximately four metres wide and two metres deep and will include an interactive component with pedestrian movement down the lane.

A memorial will also be installed as part of these works. The Carol Lloyd Memorial will be installed at the Beirne Complex and Fortuneland Centre at 28 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley. The proposed panel-style memorial will act as an element of interest, providing a short history of Carol Lloyd and her significance in the development of live music in Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley.

Project impacts

During construction, the local community can expect some construction-related noise, dust and vibration.

The work area will be fenced. Construction will take place between 7am-5pm, Monday to Friday, weather permitting.

Council is committed to keeping the community informed about construction and will provide advance notification of out-of-hours works.

Safe pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained around the site.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during the work. Advance notification of particularly noisy works or major access changes will be provided to properties within the works area.
