Beirne Lane upgrade - Fortitude Valley

Brisbane City Council has completed works to upgrade Beirne Lane in Brunswick Street Mall, Fortitude Valley, between Wickham Street and Ann Street, in partnership with DMC Projects.

The upgrade is part of Brisbane City Council's commitment to creating new lifestyle and leisure opportunities and delivering vibrant, liveable communities.

The project started in mid-October and is now complete.

About the project

Construction works included:

  • removing existing paving bricks
  • installing a new concrete footpath with footpath drainage
  • removing and replacing existing manhole covers
  • installing a new artwork as part of the City of Lights Strategy.

The artwork is a a three-dimensional star form which is approximately four metres wide and two metres deep and includes an interactive component with pedestrian movement down the lane.

A memorial was also installed as part of these works. The ‘Carol Lloyd Memorial’ was installed at the TC Beirne Complex and Fortuneland Centre at 28 Duncan St, Fortitude Valley and provides a short history of Carol Lloyd and her significance in the development of live music in Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley.

Council would like to thank the local community and businesses for their patience while these works were completed.
