About the project

Works were undertaken at the Ann Street end and the Wickham Street end of the mall.

The bollards and garden beds are a more permanent measure to provide improved separation between the roadway and pedestrians in the mall.

Works were undertaken at the Ann Street end and the Wickham Street end of the mall.

Works began in late May 2021 and were completed in December 2021.

Further minor works

These works will involve the relocation of a switchboard that is currently in the middle of the Brunswick Street Mall and is a hindrance to pedestrian traffic.

These works will involve:

  • Relocation of the large switchboard in the middle of the mall (currently with T.C. Beirne & Co wrap) to the current location of the grey general rubbish bin
  • Installation of new underground conduits
  • Removal of the grey general rubbish bin next to the small block wall in front of the Fortitude Music Hall

Businesses in close proximity may experience some noise and dust generated from these works. Please be assured that Council will use environmental controls and make every effort to minimise disruptions.

Access for authorised vehicles will also be maintained during the works. Access into and through the Mall will be maintained for the public and for permit holders.

A small area of temporary fencing immediately surrounding the work area will remain in place for safety for the duration of the works (from late January to early February).

Timing for further minor works

Works are anticipated to commence in late January and be completed in early February 2022, weather permitting. The works are anticipated to occur between 7pm and 5am, Monday 31 January and Tuesday 1 February. Council will endeavour to complete the noisiest works by 1am.
