About the project

The works will involve removing a section of the timber, pavement and garden beds to:

  • access the underground drainage area
  • excavate material, and
  • repair drainage pipes and place fill, where required
  • reinstate the area.

Project timing

Construction is expected to start from 21 January 2019 and take up to three weeks to complete. Construction will take place primarily at night between 7pm-5am, Monday to Thursday.

Impacts during construction

The work area will be fenced for the duration of works. Properties in close proximity to the work may experience some construction noise, dust, and vibration. Council will make every effort to minimise the impacts on the local community.

Due to workplace health and safety requirements, Council cannot switch off reversing beepers.

Access to the Chinatown car park will remain open at all times. During construction, some temporary partial lane and footpath closures may occur. Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to safely direct road users around the site as required.

No tree removals are planned and any disturbed or removed vegetation will be replaced. Planting is conducted in consultation with arborists and offset as per Council’s environmental guidelines.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. Council will inform local residents of construction activities and provide advance notification.
