Prevention and community liaison

""Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles are effective ways to prevent graffiti.

Examples of CPTED principles include:

  • limited access through fencing
  • effective use of plants and vegetation
  • maintaining clear sight lines
  • ensuring no natural ladders exist
  • lighting
  • texture and colour of walls, buildings and assets

Support for community and businesses

Brisbane City Council provides businesses, community groups and residents support, information and advice in order to work together to address graffiti.

Rapid removal is the most effective way to prevent graffiti reappearing. Free graffiti removal kits are available for businesses and residents at all Regional Business Centres and Ward offices.

On Council property, graffiti is removed from buildings or structures within five working days of it being reported. Offensive or high profile graffiti is removed within one working day.

On private property, the property owner or occupier is responsible for graffiti removal. Although Council may require removal of graffiti, we will work with property owners and provide removal support through advice, information and materials.
