Advertising Devices Local Law 2021

Brisbane City Council is responsible for permitting and regulating outdoor advertising devices in Brisbane.

The regulations are set out in the Advertising Devices Local Law 2021.

Local laws are also available for download from the State Government Local Laws database.

The local law ensures advertising devices and associated structures are constructed and maintained to essential standards of public safety and complement desirable characteristics of the natural and built environment in which they are exhibited.

Statutory instruments under the Local Law

The Local Law is supported by statutory instruments that you can use to find out whether a proposed advertising device is permitted, requires approval or is generally inappropriate.

  1. Permitted Advertising Devices Designation: outlines the types of signs, requirements and locations for advertising devices that are permitted.
  2.  Advertising Devices Design and Assessment Rule: outlines the types of signs, requirements and locations for advertising devices that require an approval or are generally inappropriate.

The Local Law is also supported by a statutory instrument that will be used during the assessment of certain advertising devices to consider illumination and traffic impacts. The Advertising Devices Technical Standard outlines technical criteria for certain sign types that require an approval.
