Story Bridge events

The Story Bridge is arguably Queensland’s most iconic physical structure and an attractive location for events in our state. Find out how to apply to use the Story Bridge for events such as cultural festivals, commemoratively significant events, and sporting events such as runs and cycling events.

Application process

Event organisers must apply to use the Story Bridge for an event. A maximum of three events will be approved for full bridge closures annually.

Applications are now open for events being held in 2017 and beyond.

Event organisers are invited to submit applications for use of the Story Bridge for event purposes (full closures only).

The application process ensures a fair and consistent process for assessing the use of the Bridge. Event organisers should demonstrate the ability to successfully undertake an event and show that they can positively promote Queensland through use of the Story Bridge.

The effect of a full closure of the Story Bridge has significant and far reaching effects on road networks and safety. Ensuring the safety of everyone is the priority and event organisers should be aware of the operational and logistical challenges that come along with closing a major transport corridor.

A maximum of three events will be approved for Story Bridge closures annually. Two in the first half of the year and one in the second half.

Event organisers with a desire to use the Story Bridge as part of their event are encouraged to submit an application.

When making an application please take into careful consideration the following:

  • the terms and conditions
  • the attachments required to assist in the evaluation of your application include an accredited traffic management plan, event budget and response to the evaluation criteria
  • you may be requested to attend a meeting with the evaluation panel to discuss event details further prior to approval being granted to use the Story Bridge for your event.

For all enquiries regarding this process please phone Brisbane City Council on 07 3403 8888.
