Footpath Dining Local Law

Brisbane City Council is required to monitor the standard of operations in food premises that provide footpath dining. Council's new Footpath Dining Local Law 2011 regulates outdoor dining to ensure the safety of diners and pedestrians.

The new local law provides greater clarity in regulating footpath dining, including:

  • greater transparency to businesses about regulatory processes and outcomes
  • reducing red tape for licensing and approvals
  • making applying for permits easier by streamlining how applications are assessed

Council approved the Footpath Dining Local Law 2011 on 6 December, 2011. This law replaced part 3 of Chapter 14 - The Parking and Control of Traffic Local Law. This new law began on 13 February 2012.
