Ferry terminal upgrades

Brisbane City Council is committed to providing safe, efficient and accessible transport networks across the city. As part of this commitment, Council’s ferry terminal upgrades program aims to ensure all future upgrades and delivery of new public transport assets, where possible, meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA), Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (DSAPT) and the Disability Standards 2010 (Premises Standards). 

These documents establish minimum accessibility requirements to be met by providers and operators of public transport conveyances, infrastructure and premises. They relate to elements such as ramps, access paths, manoeuvring areas, handrails and boarding devices.

Council’s investment since 2011 has already improved accessibility, connectivity and flood resilience of the River City’s ferry terminal network. Some of the milestones reached in this time included delivering new terminals, upgrading existing terminals and delivering terminals following the January 2011 floods under the joint Australian Government-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

• no terminals are currently closed for maintenance

• Thornton Street 
• Norman Park 
• Eagle Street Pier

Current maintenance works

At times, general maintenance works may need to be undertaken at ferry terminals across the network.

Unless otherwise advised, works will be undertaken between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. River-based works often require particular tidal conditions in order to be completed safely, which can sometimes occur after normal working hours. Where works are required to be completed after hours to align with tidal conditions, Council will endeavour to avoid disruption to neighbours wherever possible.

Council does not anticipate any changes to ferry services during these works and will advise in advance if schedule changes occur. To accommodate the works, there may be minor impacts to passenger movement on the terminal.

Passengers and nearby pedestrians may experience some noise associated with the use of a generator for water pumping and handheld tools.
