Kurilpa riverfront renewal

Over the coming years, Kurilpa will emerge as a vibrant new riverside community, confident in its place in Brisbane’s heart. Open, diverse, energetic and dynamic, Kurilpa will exemplify the aspirations and values of Australia’s New World City – global in ambition yet distinctly local in character and style.
At more than 25 hectares in size and across the river from Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD) and neighbouring Queensland’s premier cultural precinct, Kurilpa represents an urban regeneration opportunity of immense scale and city-shaping significance. It is Brisbane’s largest inner-city renewal precinct in more than two decades.
Kurilpa’s one kilometre stretch of north-facing river frontage offers the city’s most significant opportunity to deliver on Brisbane City Council’s River’s Edge Strategy – our vision to improve access and amenity along the inner-city reaches of the Brisbane River.
Council and the Queensland Government are working together to facilitate the renewal of Kurilpa. An ambitious draft master plan provides the framework for Kurilpa’s transformation from industry and factories to a world-class riverfront destination welcoming 11,000 new residents and delivering 8000 new jobs.
A key element of the project involves Council and Queensland Government working collaboratively with the key industrial landowners to enable their staged relocation out of Kurilpa. This will open up catalyst development sites that have been quarantined from the public for decades.

Priority projects
Priority projects are intended to be delivered over the next five to ten years to revitalise Kurilpa's riverfront. See what we have in store for the area.
Our vision
A short walk from the CBD, Kurilpa will be a new riverfront destination - a sophisticated inner-city community with a mix of contemporary apartments, state-of-the-art offices and world-class cultural venues. It will be a place to shop, dine, visit and celebrate. A natural extension of the Queensland Cultural Precinct, it will be an incubator of ideas and a powerhouse of creativity.
Kurilpa will capture the rhythm and spirit of Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle, opening up an entire one kilometre of riverfront for play, relaxation and civic events. Showcasing the best in contemporary design, Kurilpa will retain strong links to its rich heritage. Chimney stacks and industrial relics will stand as landmarks to the past.
Kurilpa will celebrate the best of our river city.
