Accepted development

Certain types of projects are considered accepted development (exempt or self-assessable). These projects do not need a development application if it meets certain requirements set out in the codes in the Brisbane City Plan 2014.

Part 5 - Tables of Assessment of the Brisbane City Plan 2014 provides a detailed list of prescribed accepted development and categories of assessment with specified requirements that must be met for self-assessment. Under Planning Regulation 2017, all development on a local heritage place is assessable development (unless otherwise listed under Schedule 10, Part 8, Division 1 Local heritage places). Some types of very minor work on a local heritage place may be eligible for a Heritage Exemption Certificate, rather than triggering a development application.

You can visit Development.i to use Council's property enquiry tool. Follow the instructions to determine the level of assessment of your proposed development.

It is important to remember that even if your project is accepted development, a building approval may still be required.
