Residential zones in the Carina area

Brisbane City Council conducted a survey about potential zoning changes to some properties in Carina currently zoned as Low-medium density residential (LMR), following interest in a potential change from some local community members.

The survey of property owners in the identified area was undertaken from 19 April to 2 June to determine the level of support for changing the zone from Low-medium density residential (LMR) to Low density residential (LR).

Survey results

Council required at least 50 per cent of property owners in the identified area to have responded, with at least 70 per cent of respondents in support of a zoning change to progress a review of zoning changes.

The results show that 49.7% of property owners responded to the survey, with 62.2% of respondents voting in support of changing the zone to Low density residential.

Votes were received from unit and townhouse owners, as well as detached house owners. A summary of how these property owners voted is provided below:

  • Detached house owners – 43.6% support vs 56.4% do not support
  • Unit and townhouse owners – 74.8% support vs 25.2% do not support.

Council has not received sufficient support from property owners to progress a change to the residential zoning and the existing Low-medium density residential zone will be retained.
