Local projects finalised in 2016
Neighbourhood plans and other local planning projects help manage change and growth at a local level. The following neighbourhood plans were adopted by Brisbane City Council in 2016:
On 3 May 2016, Council adopted amendments to Brisbane City Plan 2014 to include the updated Albion Neighbourhood Plan together with necessary consequential amendments. The amendments commenced on 13 May 2016.
The updated neighbourhood plan seeks to revitalise Albion village and promote higher density development close to Albion Station, while protecting established areas of character housing and light industry. Key differences between the superseded Albion Neighbourhood Plan and the new Albion Neighbourhood Plan include:
- revised precinct boundaries and the inclusion of the new Corunna Street Precinct
- changes to zoning within the Albion village, Corunna Street and Raceway precincts
- limitation of building height within the Station Precinct, and changes to maximum building heights in some precincts
- inclusion of specific provisions to ensure new development protects key public view corridors to features such as the city centre skyline, the Brisbane River and Mt Coot-tha.

On 8 November 2016, Council adopted amendments to Brisbane City Plan 2014 to include the updated Lower Oxley Creek North Neighbourhood Plan together with necessary consequential amendments. The amendments commenced on 18 November 2016.
Lower Oxley Creek North is one of the few remaining greenfield areas within Brisbane. The aim of the plan is to create an attractive place for business and employment, encouraging the development of industrial uses, while protecting and enhancing environmental corridors and safeguarding people and property from the impacts of hazards such as flooding and landfills.
The draft plan provides for:
- an industrial extension to the south-west industrial gateway - low impact industry and medium impact industry uses are encouraged in areas that are not affected by high-risk flooding or significant environmental values, in particular transport, manufacturing, logistics and distribution
- the protection and enhancement of regionally important environmental corridors including Blunder Creek, Oxley Creek and Archerfield wetlands
- a new neighbourhood centre and local park at the junction of Sherbrooke Road and King Avenue to service the needs of local businesses and workers
- the safety of people and property from the impacts of hazards including flooding and existing landfills.

On Tuesday 2 February 2016, Council adopted amendments to Brisbane City Plan 2014 to include the Taringa Neighbourhood Plan together with necessary consequential amendments. The amendments commenced on 19 February 2016. The plan will support and foster growth in the established Taringa centre where there is strong demand for housing and business opportunities and access to employment, services and public transport.
Highlights of the neighbourhood plan include:
- New development to be focused in the established Taringa Village, in close proximity to the Taringa Railway Station and high frequency bus services along Moggill Road and Morrow Street. The majority of the neighbourhood plan area will remain unchanged.
- The Taringa Core Precinct will continue to be the heart of the suburb with new development up to eight storeys providing a vibrant mix of shops, cafes and restaurants, commercial, residential and community uses.
- High density, mixed use development up to 12 storeys in the Gateway Precinct will improve the pedestrian environment and access to the railway station
- A new public plaza provided in conjunction with new mixed use development up to 10 storeys in the Harrys Road East Precinct . Development in this precinct will be residential with uses such as shops and cafes on the ground level.
- Long-term improvements proposed to the Moggill Road corridor to improve the movement of traffic around Taringa and enable improved amenity and access through Taringa Village.
