About the project

West End Riverside Parklands is a corridor park stretching along the Brisbane River, providing more than two kilometres of green space for recreation.

The aim of this project is to upgrade this key corridor park by creating more greenspace for recreational use and improving access, safety and connectivity.

West End Riverside Lands Park is located along the Brisbane River between Orleigh Park and Davies Park in West End providing a key riverside corridor link for West End, South Brisbane and adjacent areas.

The focus area for landscaping improvements is between Forbes Street and Victoria Street and all vehicle access has already been removed from this section. Note that the section from Victoria Street and Davies Park currently still allows access for Brisbane Grammar rowing vehicles and trailers.

Proposed park improvements:

  • dedicated pathways for cyclists and pedestrians
  • new greenspace will be created by closing the roadway at Forbes Street
  • central landscape buffer to the existing roadway
  • seating and general landscaping
  • tree planting to increase shade.

Project benefits

The project will:

  • increase capacity, improve safety and usability for cyclists and pedestrians
  • improve the commuter bikeway network between West End and the city
  • improve overall park amenity
  • increase greenspace for community recreation.

Project timing

Council is progressing the design for the project with construction and remediation works anticipated to start in early 2019, weather and site conditions permitting.

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction activities in their area and will provide advance notification of the final design prior to the start of construction.
