The Easter school holidays are choc-a-block with free and low cost activities for kids of all ages to discover across Brisbane. For less than a coffee and muffin at your local café, you can get the kids off the couch and discovering fun across Brisbane’s libraries, parks, the Planetarium and Mt Coot-tha. Here’s what a week can look like.
Saturday 6 April
Start the holidays with the wind behind you, and head towards Breakwater Park, Wynnum for catamaran sailing and kayaking lessons for kids aged 5 and above across a range of dates. Bookings are essential.
Sunday 7 April
Get kids learning the ins and outs of fermenting and growing organic food in the surrounds of the beautiful Karawatha Forest Park and Discovery Centre. For $5 and all materials supplied, it’s a Sunday morning well spent.
Monday 8 April
Keep your soft drink bottles and let your budding rocket scientists experience the thrill of building and flying their own water-propelled bottle rocket in Milton’s Frew Park. Under supervision, kids of all ages can watch their rockets fly over 60 metres high, a priceless experience for only $5. This activity is offered across a range of dates and parks in the holidays, bookings are essential.
Tuesday 9 April
If you’ve got a skateboarder aged up to 17 years old bored of doing 180s and in need of some new tricks, book them in for a free community skateboard workshop (BYO board and helmet), where qualified coaches will teach the basics as well as new skills and tricks.
Wednesday 10 April
Jeff Probst might not be there to encourage them to outwit, outplay and outlast, but kids eight and over can jump into their own Survivor challenge in Manly. For two hours, they’ll compete in fun but challenging activities using team work, strategy and a little luck to survive the game. Oh and did we mention this one was free?
Thursday 11 April
Slip, slop, slap and head along to the Forest Lake parklands for the Amazing Eco Art Race. Working as a team, kids aged 10-17 will race the clock to explore a range of different creative activities that focus on the environment. Free to attend and bookings essential.
Friday 12 April
Between the latest Snapchats, Instagram live streams and Facebook friend requests our youngest generations are connected 24/7. Guide them towards some peace and quiet in our free Chillout Yoga sessions for 10-17 year olds.

- Get into nature and take part in free activities at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens including making palm sheath baskets, learning about bush foods, and the art of Zen. For 12 years and over and BYO lunch.
- Book in to explore and discover new worlds at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium with 12 show sessions being held across the school holidays, including the Secret of the Cardboard Rocket, Perfect Little Planet and The Little Star That Could. Be sure to get in before doors close for renovations on 18 April.
