Bikeway closures and detours
Before riding in Brisbane, check the temporary bikeway and shared path closures and detours that may affect your bike ride.
The closures detailed on this page are long term closures (longer than 2 months) on major bikeways in Brisbane.
As part of the bikeway closure process, Council ensures all organisations closing any part of a bikeway notifies users of the closure and, if applicable, the detour. This applies to both short and long term closures.
To report damaged or blocked bikeways and pathways, or for more information on current closures, phone Brisbane City Council on 07 3403 8888.

North
Shand Street shared path
The shared path along Shand Street is currently closed between Sheehy Street and the bridge over the Kedron Brook, following a landslip that occurred during the February 2022 severe weather event.
Initial inspections by our geotechnical experts have revealed that to reopen the footpath, more than simple clean up works are required.
We need to complete the design and construction of an engineered stabilisation solution before the footpath can be reopened.
Construction is expected to start from mid-2023. We appreciate the community’s patience and their continued use of the detour while the footpath remains closed.
Hawera Court Bridge
The bridge at Hawera Crescent Park, Aspley was damaged by the February 2022 severe weather event and has been removed until a replacement bridge can be constructed.
Alternate routes are available on nearby streets, including Takitimu Street and Horn Road, Aspley.
Kingsford Smith Drive Boardwalk
As part of Brisbane City Council’s maintenance program, repairs are being undertaken to the Kingsford Smith Drive boardwalk from 28 March to late May 2024, weather and construction conditions permitting.
To complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, a full closure of the boardwalk and a closure of Breakfast Creek Road bridge inbound footpath is required while repairs are underway.
A pedestrian and cyclist detour will be in place for the duration of the works via the Breakfast Creek/Yowoggera Green Bridge. Signage including detours maps is posted where the closures occur to show the detour.
These essential works are part of Council’s maintenance program. We value your patience and cooperation while we undertake this important project.
