Brisbane City Council is working with BMD Properties Pty Ltd (BMD) to deliver a public golf course and residential precinct in Cannon Hill.

Project outcome Delivery of a new public golf course and residential precinct to the Cannon Hill area

Latest update

Construction of the residential precinct (stages 2, 3 and 4) is complete, with construction of the golf course expected to start in early to mid-2019, subject to relevant approvals

The new public golf course will be Brisbane's first public golf course in 70 years and the only public golf course south of the Brisbane River. The golf course will be similar in specification to Council's existing golf courses such as St Lucia and Victoria Park.

As part of the project, BMD was responsible for remediating the former Cannon Hill tip prior to construction of the residential precinct and golf course. Remediation works were fully funded by Council.

The cost to construct the golf course will be funded entirely from proceeds of the residential development.

Project timing

Works started in May 2015 and are anticipated to be completed by 2021. The project includes the following stages:

  1. Remediation works
Works commenced in May 2015 and were completed in July 2016.

Environmental impacts

Works will be undertaken in accordance with an approved environmental management plan. Council will support BMD in the implementation of the plan to ensure all necessary precautionary measures are undertaken to minimise environmental impacts.

Development approval conditions have also been imposed to ensure appropriate rehabilitation is undertaken and that all habitats are managed and ecological features are preserved.

The environmental management plan includes provision for the amelioration of impacts to the squirrel glider population within the project site.

The adjacent Minnippi Parklands, Preston Road Park and Meadowlands Picnic Ground will not be impacted by the development.
