>> DANIELLE: Hi, welcome to STEM at Brisbane Square Library. My name is Danielle. So STEM stands for - science, technology, engineering and maths and we do STEM sessions regularly here at Brisbane Square.

But before we start we will do our Children’s Acknowledgement to Country. Are we ready?

Here is the land, Here is the sky, Here are my friends, And here am I.

So today we are doing an engineering activity, we are building a marble maze. This is one I have built before. I am not sure if you will see it but basically you build a maze out of some Lego or blocks. I’ve used a Lego board but you can use any flat surface, a plate, a tray, a chopping board maybe - anything that you can pick up and move around. And you place the marble at the beginning and you just move it around until it goes through the maze and you can get as tricky or as simple as you like. You can maybe even put in some dead ends in yours.

So we will just do a very fast little one today to show you. So it’s best to go right around the outside edge leaving just a gap to start. You want to make sure you got enough space for the marble to fit through as well. So this can be our opening over here today. Whoops, not the right size. And we will leave an opening on the opposite side for our marble to go through. So, how tricksy can you be with yours? How big can you go? Okay, so we will just make sure we’ve got enough space for our marble to fit through. Okay, so I have just done quickly a very very simple one. And again, put it in the beginning and you roll it around, no see, so maybe sometimes you might have to give it a couple of goes. So it’s too thick to fit through so we will make it a smaller one. So let’s try again. 1,2,3 and all the way out. What do you think? Do you have Lego at home? Do you have some kind of blocks? Can you make your own maze and make a marble maze? Show mum and dad how good you are at engineering.

So please join us again for another STEM session as soon as you can. Thanks’ for joining us today. Bye bye.
