|Address||Bowen Terrace, New Farm|
|Project outcomes||Improve access to Brisbane’s most sought-after vantage points|
|Latest update||Bike path improvement works|
About the project
The Wilson Outlook Reserve upgrade will improve access to Brisbane’s most sought-after vantage points for some of our city’s major events.
Completed works have provided exciting new park features for local residents and the community to enjoy, including:
- a timber observation deck at the cliff edge of the reserve, with new balustrading
- park furniture consisting of seating, tables, and bins
- feature lighting to illuminate paths and the new deck
- landscaping including gardens and turf
- minor retaining walls and new pathways with concrete paving.
The existing exercise equipment will remain in its current location and existing trees will be retained.
Bike path improvement works
Improvements to the bike path at Wilson Outlook Reserve will occur in late November 2019, weather permitting.
Currently, this bike path curves around Bowen Terrace towards Moray Street, with the crossfall sloping away towards the edge of the park which is undesirable for cycling. This project will amend the crossfall to slope inward to improve safety for cyclists using this path.
Safety is Council's highest priority and undertaking these works will improve safety for users of this path. Improvement works such as these support Council's commitment to encourage active and healthy lifestyles and leisure opportunities for our city.
The scope of works includes:
- removing a section of the existing bike path around the corner of Bowen Terrace and Moray Street
- installing a new section of path with an improved crossfall
- upgrading and relocating the directly adjacent light pole to a safer location
- remulching under trees, minor returfing and underplanting to restore amenity following project works.
Throughout the construction the local community can expect temporary footpath closures and detours around the site, construction noise, increased truck movements, and low levels of vibration and dust.
Signage will be in place to help pedestrians and cyclists navigate the temporary closures, and the remainder of the park will be open throughout the works.
The park upgrade works started in late May 2019 and were completed September 2019.
The bike path improvement works are expected to be undertaken from 18 November 2019 and take one week to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting. Construction will take place between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. We appreciate the local community has experienced a prolonged period of construction. The project team is programming works to reduce the construction impacts as much as possible. Council thanks local residents for their patience and understanding during these important works to improve the safety of this popular path.
