Castamore Way Park project - Richlands
Brisbane City Council undertook community consultation on a concept plan for Castamore Way Park in Richlands. The feedback was used to shape a park design to suit the needs of the local area.
Council is creating more to see and do in a clean and green Brisbane, with more opportunities to enjoy Brisbane's beautiful climate and connect with family and friends in the places that make our city great.
|Address||Castamore Way Park, 112A and 120A Progress Road, Richlands|
|Project outcomes||To deliver a local recreation park, shaped by the community, that will provide a green space for residents and opportunities for activity and recreation|
|Latest update||Stage 1 construction to begin in mid-April 2022|
About the project
As Brisbane continues to grow, it is important to ensure our parks continue to meet the recreational needs of residents.
Castamore Way Park is currently open space parkland without any facilities. Council is creating a local recreation park, shaped by the local community, that provides green space for residents and opportunities for activity and relaxation. The proposed enhancements will ensure the park caters to the growing needs of the community and suits the character of the local area.
We're protecting and expanding greenspace to make it easier for you to enjoy the lifestyle our great city has to offer.
Construction will be delivered in two stages.
Stage 1 will include:
- earthworks to level the site and create usable space for the community to enjoy
- a large open space for play and informal sporting activities
- planting and landscaping, including replanting feature trees and large shade trees.
Delivery of stage two works are pending confirmation of the 2022/23 budget and timeframes. Council is committed to keeping the community informed and will provide information about stage two as information becomes available.
Stage 2 will include:
- a new playground area including junior play equipment, seating, bins and a drinking fountain
- a new pathway connecting the play area to Progress Road and Castamore Way
- sandstone retaining walls and steeping stones, a picnic table and shelter.
Impacts during construction
The existing space will be temporarily closed to complete the works and enable construction to proceed safely. Fencing will be erected around the work site. Safe pedestrian access will be maintained around the work site at all times.
Works will generally involve earthworks, landscaping and installation of new park infrastructure.
Council has identified ten trees that need to be removed to safely complete the works. Tree removals have been assessed in accordance with Council's Natural Areas Local Law and will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines. A project arborist has been engaged to ensure the park trees are protected during construction and continue to thrive post construction.
Residents, businesses and park users in close proximity to the works may experience some noise and dust during the works. Council will use environmental controls and is committed to minimising the impact of the works on the community as much as possible. Council thanks local residents and businesses in advance for their patience during these works.
