About the project

Council is enhancing and diversifying the recreational opportunities throughout this popular green space to support healthy lifestyles and ensure the facilities cater to the broader community.

This project supports increased activation of Guyatt Park and provides more opportunities for outdoor activity.

The Guyatt Park improvement works include:

  • replacement of the existing junior playground equipment (near Hiron Street and the Brisbane River) to bring the playground to a modern standard; and
  • a new fitness challenge course to provide new athletic opportunities for ages 12 and above.

Council is also committed to ensuring the bikeway through the park continues to be a safe place to ride.

This project is part of Council's commitment to enhancing and maintaining more than 2100 parks across the city.

Project timing

Construction will take place between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday and will be completed in mid-2020, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Construction impacts

The existing junior playground will be unavailable during refurbishment works. A section of the open park area near Macquarie Street will also be unavailable during construction of the outdoor fitness challenge course.

Local residents and businesses in close proximity to the work area may experience some construction noise, dust and low levels of vibration. Safe pedestrian and cyclist access around the worksite will be maintained throughout construction.

Some parking spaces in the Macquarie Street Parking area may be temporarily unavailable during the works. There will be increased vehicle movements along Hiron Street and Macquarie Street, and short delays may be experienced as vehicles enter and leave the site. Due to workplace health and safety requirements reversing beepers cannot be turned off.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while we complete this important work.

Project benefits

This project will deliver increased activation of Guyatt Park and a vibrant, liveable space that builds on the existing well-used facilities, by providing more opportunities for outdoor activity.
