About the project

This project will take place in the northern section of the Upper Kedron Recreation Reserve, located at 270 Upper Kedron Road, Upper Kedron, specifically the area surrounding the playground.

The works will involve:

  • constructing a concrete rock-lined and grassed open drain along the Upper Kedron Road side of the park
  • constructing a rock-lined drain within the tree line near Cemetery Road
  • upgrading the existing grass drain diverting the water away from the playground
  • compaction and re-capping of the closed landfill, with clay material
  • installation of topsoil and turf
  • removal and reinstallation of the barrier fence near the playground to allow for construction access to build the rock-lined drain
  • tree trimming for safe construction access.

Project timing

The project will start in September 2019 and is expected to be completed in early 2020, weather and construction conditions permitting.

There will be a three-month closure of the playground and car park off Upper Kedron Road, from early September to mid-November 2019, except for the school holiday period from 21 September to 8 October.

From mid-November to early 2020, there will be a three-month turf establishment period in the area around the playground.

Impacts during construction

Construction impacts will include:

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction works in their area and will provide advance notification of activities likely to cause disruption. We would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding during these important works to improve the safety of this site.

Dust, noise and vibrations

Local residents and businesses in close proximity to the work area may experience some dust, construction noise and low levels of vibration.

Council will endeavour to keep this disturbance to a minimum where possible.

Closures and detours

Pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle access around the worksite will be maintained during the works.

These works require some detours along Upper Kedron Road and through the park for cyclists and pedestrians.

The footpath closures along Upper Kedron Road and through the park will be staged and footpaths will be re-opened as soon as possible.

Car parks will also be closed along Upper Kedron Road for a period during the works. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience during this time.

Where necessary, traffic controllers will be on-site to assist cyclists and pedestrians through the worksite. Please look for warning and redirection signage, and follow the direction of traffic controllers.

Truck movements

During the works, expect increased truck movements for the site delivery of rock, clay, soil, turf and cement and removal of any construction waste.

Where possible, truck movements to and from the site will be limited during school drop-off and pick-up times. Due to workplace health and safety requirements reversing beepers cannot be switched off.
