About the project

Council is constructing a high quality sporting precinct at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley which will provide increased sporting and active space facilities for Wakerley and surrounding Bayside suburbs.

This project forms part of a city wide park infrastructure planning program to meet sport and recreational needs of the community. Council has identified  a demand in the area for netball facilities and as such will deliver a new district sports park to cater for this need.

The sports park component of the project will involve installing:

  • a sporting club house within the lower storey of the Wynnum Manly District Meals on Wheels Association Inc. (MoW) building
  • six hardstand netball courts with lighting
  • one turf practice area
  • a carpark extension with a total of 135 car spaces, including four PWD parks, four motorcycle parks and bicycle parking racks
  • a connecting shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway from Demby Crescent to Manly Road
  • a water retention basin to treat stormwater runoff
  • retaining walls and landscaping.

Council is working closely with MoW to deliver a new commercial kitchen facility, which will also house a sporting club house leased by Council.
