About the project

West End Riverside Parklands is a corridor park stretching along the Brisbane River, providing more than two kilometres of greenspace for recreation.

The project will upgrade this key corridor park by creating more greenspace for recreational use and improving access, safety and connectivity. Additional funding has been provided to reconstruct a section of steep embankment to provide more useable greenspace.

West End Riverside Parklands is located along the Brisbane River between Orleigh Park and Davies Park in West End providing a key riverside corridor link for West End, South Brisbane and adjacent areas.

The focus area for landscaping improvements is between Forbes Street and Victoria Street with all vehicle access having been removed from this section in prior years.

Works to improve the West End Riverside Parklands will include:

  • installing dedicated pathways for cyclists and pedestrians
  • creating new greenspace by closing the roadway at Forbes Street
  • installing a central landscape buffer to the existing roadway
  • re-grading the existing embankment (north of the GPS Rowing Club driveway) to provide more useable green space
  • installing seating and general landscaping
  • tree planting to increase shade.

Community feedback

Council thanks the community for providing ideas to help shape the 'look and feel' of the new embankment. The online survey has now closed.
