About the project
The Wishart Community Park upgrade project aims to revitalise the current park area by creating a new and exciting playground based at the end of Kavanagh Road. The upgrade will provide new family-friendly recreational opportunities at the Kavanagh Road entrance to the park and will complement the existing facilities located in the other areas of Wishart Community Park.
This project is part of Council's commitment to enhancing and maintaining more than 2100 parks across the city.
The project will deliver:
- a new playground, including a multi-play unit, climbing equipment, spinner, rocker, swings, cubby house
- carved posts and sandstone steppers
- picnic table with shelter
- shade structures
- shade tree and low landscaping planting
- connecting path to the car park.
Playground materials and colours will follow a nature theme and will complement the natural landscape of the site.
Council is currently completing works on the construction of Wishart Community Park bikeway. The new three-metre-wide shared pedestrian and cyclist path will connect the car park at the southern end of Kavanagh Road to the Bulimba Creek Bikeway through the southern section of Wishart Community Park.
Council consulted with the community on the draft concept plan for the new playground in September 2019. Community feedback received on the draft concept plan was supportive of the proposed playspace catering to children 2-12 years and showed a preference for features that allow climbing and crawling, navigating obstacles, sliding and swinging, as well as nature-themed elements.
Council thanks the community for providing feedback and helping develop a unique 'look and feel' for the new playspace.
Construction will take place between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Council is committed to keeping the community informed of construction in the area and will provide advance notice prior to the start of construction and for any out-of-hours activities.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause and appreciate your patience while these important works are completed.
Council has identified up to seven trees for removal to facilitate the project. Replanting will occur as close as possible to where the vegetation was removed. A further 15 trees will also be planted around the new playground. All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines and Council will make every effort to minimise environmental impacts during construction.
