About the project
Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean and green, making our city liveable and sustainable for future generations.
The aim of this project is to deliver play facilities in the southern part of Wishart Community Park (at the end of Kavanagh Street), shaped by the local community, to improve the green space for residents and provide opportunities for activity and relaxation.
Community feedback received on the draft concept plan was supportive of the proposed playspace catering to children 2-12 years and showed a preference for features that allow climbing and crawling, navigating obstacles, sliding and swinging, as well as nature-themed elements.
This upgrade will provide new, family-friendly recreational opportunities in Wishart Community Park and will complement the existing facilities located in other areas of the park.
As shown in the final concept plan, the project will deliver:
- multi-play unit
- climbing equipment
- spinner, rocker and swings
- cubby house
- carved posts and sandstone steppers
- picnic table with shelter
- shade structures
- shade tree and low landscaping planting
- connecting path to the car park.
Playground materials and colours will follow a nature theme and will complement the natural landscape of the site.
Council thanks the community for providing feedback and helping develop a unique 'look and feel' for the new playspace.
This project is part of Council's commitment to enhancing and maintaining more than 2100 parks across the city.
The concept plan will now move into the detailed design and construction phases. Construction is anticipated to commence in early 2020, with more information to be provided to the community prior to works starting.
Council is also constructing a pedestrian and cyclist path through the southern end of Wishart Community Park. This shared path will connect the Kavanagh Street car park to the northern side of the park.
