About the project

Council is creating more to see and do in a city that is clean and gree, so you can enjoy Brisbane's beautiful climate, while connecting with the people and places that make our city great. This upgrade is part of Council's commitment to creating new lifestyle and leisure opportunities and delivering vibrant, liveable communities, while protecting and expanding the greenspace our city has to offer.

The project will include:

  • demolition of the existing synthetic turf onsite
  • removal of materials
  • minor earthworks to prepare the site
  • construction of bluestone retaining walls with incorporated timber seating
  • laying of synthetic turf over the concrete-base slab
  • landscaping and planting.

Project benefits

The project will provide the following benefits.

  • Improved functionality by increasing usable space.
  • Improved connection with the water.
  • Reduced ongoing maintenance requirements on the lower grassed area.

Impacts during construction

Construction will generally take place between 6.30am - 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. The lawn will be closed and fenced off for the duration of the works.

Park users in close proximity to the site may experience some construction impacts associated with the works, including noise, dust and vibration. There will also be vehicle movements around the site with reversing alarms and flashing lights. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption where possible. Council thanks park users in advance for their patience and understanding while we deliver a better designated booking site in the gardens.

Project timing

Construction is expected to be completed by early 2020, weather and site conditions permitting.
