Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards 2020 Terms and Conditions

  1. General:
    1. These terms and conditions set out all the information regarding the Brisbane City Council – Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards 2020 (the Awards)
    2. The Awards are presented and promoted by Brisbane City Council ABN 72 002 765 795 acting through its Connected Communities branch, Lifestyle and Community Services division whose principal offices are at Brisbane Square, 266 George Street, Brisbane (Council).
    3. Entry to the Awards is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.
    4. Information on how to enter the Awards forms part of these terms and conditions.
    5. Voting in the People’s Choice Awards is powered by Woobox which is based in the United States of America. Woobox does not sponsor, administer or endorse the Awards. Information provided by voters for the People’s Choice Awards will be stored within Woobox’s server in the United States of America. By entering the People’s Choice Awards voting, voters acknowledge and agree to Woobox’s terms and conditions and the transfer of their personal information outside of Australia.     6. Council reserves the right to refuse any entry deemed unsuitable for public exhibition or be associated with any social media accounts that are deemed unsuitable at Council's sole discretion. This includes material that contains swearing, nudity, racist, sexist or political comment, political satire, political criticism, smoking, alcohol, unsafe behaviour, destruction and/or vandalism of public property or may otherwise be potentially detrimental to Council.

  2. Categories:
    1. There are four categories for the Awards. Images may be placed into multiple categories, if the entry meets the eligibility requirements for that category. The available categories are:
      • the Open category;
      • the Student category;
      • the Social Media category; and
      • the Green Heart category.
    2. The People's Choice Award is decided by a public vote. Images will be shortlisted and displayed on Council's website for voting September 2020.
  3. Prizes:
    1. There are seven (7) prizes available as part of the Awards:
      • Open category winner will receive $5,000 prize money;
      • Open category first runner-up will receive $2,000 prize money;
      • Open category second runner-up will receive $1,000 prize money;
      • Student category winner will receive $1,500 prize money;
      • Social Media category winner will receive $1,500 prize money; 
      • People's Choice Award winner will receive $1,500 prize money; and
      • Green Heart category winner will receive $1,500 prize money.
  4. How to enter:

  5. Award entry period:
    1. Entries for the Awards will be open at 10:00am AEST on Wednesday 8 July 2020, and close at 4:00pm AEST on Wednesday 5 August 2020 (the entry period).
    2. No entries will be accepted outside of the entry period.
  6. Eligibility:
    1. To be eligible to enter this competition, entrants must:
      • live, work or study in the Brisbane Local Government Area (Brisbane LGA) and be able to provide proof of this if requested;
      • not be a Council employee, including its contractors;
      • not be an immediate family member of:
        1.    an employee of Brisbane City Council’s Connected Communities Branch;
        2.    the Lord Mayor; or
        3.    a member of the judging panel; and
      • complete all details on the official online entry form 
    2. For an image to be eligible for judging, it must be:
    3.  Additional eligibility requirements for the Student category: To be eligible for the Student category, entrants must be currently studying at a registered educational institution within the Brisbane LGA. If requested, entrants must provide proof of their current student status.
    4.  Additional eligibility requirement for the Social Media category: Entries must be submitted via Instagram using the hashtag #LMPA2020, in addition to the submission of the official online entry form. The entrants Instagram account must be set to public.
  7.  Judging and winner notification:
    1.  A panel of four (4) judges (the Panel), appointed by Council, will review all entries and provide a recommended shortlist for the winners of the Open, Student, Social Media and Green Heart categories for the Lord Mayor’s consideration.
    2.  The Lord Mayor will review the recommendations provided by the Panel, and will make the final decision to award the winners in each of the Open, Student, Social Media and Green Heart categories.
    3.  The Panel will provide a shortlist of finalist for the People’s Choice Award category to the Lord Mayor for consideration. The Lord Mayor will review the recommendations and will make the final decision of the finalists to be available for public voting in the People’s Choice Award category.
    4.  The finalists for the People’s Choice Award category will be posted on Council’s website and its social media pages, for public voting from <date and time until date and time> (the voting period). The image with the most votes received at the end of the voting period will win the People’s Choice Award category. In the event of a tie in votes, the Lord Mayor will make the final decision.
    5. All decisions made by the panel or the Lord Mayor are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    6.  The Lord Mayor or his representative will announce, in a matter at the Lord Mayor's sole discretion, each of the winners of the Open, Student, Social Media and Green Heart categories in September 2020.
    7.  Winning entries for the Open, Student, Social Media and Green Heart categories, and finalist entries for the People’s Choice Award category will be notified by phone, letter or email by September 2020. 
    8.  The winner of the People's Choice Award will be announced at the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Morning Tea. Council reserves the right to cancel the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Morning Tea at its sole discretion.
    9. In the case the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Morning Tea is cancelled, the winner of the People's Choice Award will be notified by phone.
  8. Prize Claim:
    1.  Council will provide each winner with a form to be completed to claim their prize.
    2.  The bank account nominated on the form, must belong to the prize winner, unless the winner is under eighteen (18) years of age, in which case the bank account of the winner’s parents or guardian must be nominated, with the bank account holders consent, to claim the prize on the winner’s behalf.
    3.  Upon return of the form to Council, payment of the prize money will be made to the bank account nominated on the form.
    4.  If the prize winner does not return the form to Council within 90 days of receiving the form, they forfeit their prize.
  9. Copyright and privacy:
    1. Upon submission of an entry, the entrant, as the owner of the image, grants to Council the right to:
      • maintain a copy of the image for archival purposes;
      • publish the image on Council's website and social media platforms (including but not limited to Instagram); and
      • allow the image to be reproduced and/or exhibited by Council and its subsidiaries and related companies for any purpose. 
    2. Council will acknowledge the image owner in all publicity of the image as the creator and owner of the image.
    3. While Council will take care to ensure the quality and integrity of the reproduced image, the entrant acknowledges that enlargements and slight variations to the image may result from adapting the original image for presentation.
    4. The winning images may be featured on the cover of a publication promoting Council’s arts, cultural events, workshops and activities across Brisbane, titled “Live”. No additional financial benefits will be paid to the image owner for this use.
    5. By entering the Awards, each entrant acknowledges that their personal information will be collected and stored by Council for the purpose of conducting the Awards. The personal information you provide in your entry will be protected in accordance with Council’s obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and in accordance with Council's Privacy Policy.
  10.  Force Majeure:
    1.  If for any reason the Awards are not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of Council), which corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, Council reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Awards. Council reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify all entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, the entry process which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Awards.​
    2.  In the case of the intervention of any outside agent or event which naturally changes the result or prevents or hinders its determination, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strikes; Council may in its absolute discretion cancel the Awards and recommence it from the start on the same terms and conditions.
  11.  Award updates or cancellation:
    1.  Council reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the Awards and/or the voting process at any time without notice or further recourse to the entrants or to voters.
