About the project

The New Farm Park River Hub is part of Council’s River Access Network, which aims to encourage recreational and tourism activities on the river and to create new lifestyle and leisure opportunities.

The facility will provide a new way for tourists and residents to access New Farm Park, a popular recreational area, Brisbane Powerhouse and surrounding businesses.

The facility will be able to accommodate a range of vessels and uses including:

  • opportunities for tour boat operators to pick-up and drop-off passengers
  • short-term use for recreational vessels
  • short-term use for passive crafts such as kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards
  • designated area for potential future water taxi pick-up and drop-off.

Construction activities

Construction will take place primarily from the water, involving piling activities and attachment of the pontoons to the piles. Lighting and services will be installed on the pontoons and minor landscaping and footpath works will also occur where the River Hub meets the park.

The majority of the construction works will be undertaken from 6.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Throughout construction, properties in close proximity to the pontoon site may experience some construction noise, and vehicle movements with reversing alarms.

A section of the existing pedestrian footpath may be required to be closed for a short period of time while the works are being completed however access to and through the park will be maintained at all times. For your safety and the workers safety, please look for signage and possible access changes during construction.

Throughout construction, piling works will be required to be undertaken for up to three weeks. The piling works will involve using a barge to drive the piles into position using a combination of vibration and/or hammering methods. During the piling works, residents in close proximity to the works may experience an increase in noise and some vibration. Council’s contractor will avoid piling activities in the early morning wherever possible.

Project timing

Fabrication started off-site in August 2018 with works onsite starting in October 2018.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. Council is committed to keeping local residents informed and will provide advance notice of any out-of-hours works and anticipated construction impacts. We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and appreciate your patience while these important works are completed.
