Celebrate Children's Book Week

The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week is coming 17-23 August and there's no better place to celebrate than at one of Council's 33 libraries.

Reading is a wonderful way to spark a child's imagination and develop their speech and vocabulary. This year's theme of 'Reading is my Secret Power' is the perfect opportunity for parents and guardians of young children to engage in books and foster a life-long love of reading.

Council libraries will be holding a range of special events to mark the occasion, including storytime sessions, displays and live performances. Grab the kids and come along to celebrate all things books.

Book Week displays

While all libraries will be celebrating CBCA Book Week, there will be extra special displays happening at fifteen libraries around Brisbane. You can check them out at Annerley, Brisbane Square, Carina, Garden City, Grange, Hamilton, Holland Park, Inala, Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Mitchelton, Mount Ommaney, Nundah and Zillmere libraries, as well as Brisbane's very own Mobile Library.

Children's storytime

Bring your children along for the CBCA Book Week storytime sessions to hear about some of the shortlisted books from the 2019 CBCA Book of the Year categories. Pick up a copy of What's On at Brisbane City Council libraries, or visit our online calendar Libraries: What's on in Brisbane to find a session near you.

Cheeky Monkey Club Super Power Day

Throughout CBCA Children's Book Week, enjoy themed live performances from Cheeky Monkey and his friends, the Banana Bunchees at Banyo, Grange, Holland Park, Inala, Mount Ommaney, Toowong and Wynnum libraries. Watch Cheeky Monkey and the team go on musical adventures to help their friend find his magic super power. Bookings are required. Contact your local library to secure a spot.
