Celebrate Seniors Week

Seniors Week, from 17-25 August, is the perfect opportunity for all seniors to come together and celebrate their contributions to the community. With a range of entertainment, from music and performances, to exhibitions and workshops and group fitness, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Seniors Week is just one of many ways Brisbane City Council is creating more to see and do for seniors, and more opportunities to celebrate the many contributions they make in their communities.

Suburban concerts

Council is bringing more events to the suburbs with our Seniors Week Suburban Concerts. Enjoy an array of live music and dance workshops, from classical to rock and roll, throughout the week and connect with friends and family at clubs and halls across the city. Bookings are required.

Lord Mayor's Senior Cabaret Classes

It's your time to shine at one of the Lord Mayor's Seniors Cabaret Masterclasses. Join in on the free workshops to refine your performance skills, including one-on-one sessions with industry professionals, including Normie Rowe, Jackie Love and Jason Barry-Smith.

If performing isn't your thing, come along to support Brisbane's talented seniors as they set the stage alight at selected venues during the Lord Mayor's Seniors Cabaret Showcases

Centenarian Portrait Project by Teenagers

See what 100 years of life looks like at this art exhibition, which highlights the experiences, life history and memories of Queensland's most senior citizens. The Centenarian Portrait Prize by Teenagers is a heartwarming initiative, that sees 100 teen artists create original portraits of 100 seniors. In addition to viewing the portraits, see the unique friendships and connections across generations that grow from the project.

Drop into this exhibition anytime from 17 August to 1 September 2019 at the newly-developed Jolly Centre at Seven Hills Hub, and/or attend the free Q&A session to learn more about the project on Saturday 24 August from 2.30pm.

Fitness activities for seniors

Get active with a range of free and low-cost fitness activities for seniors. Connect with others by joining in on community aqua aerobics or Zumba classes, try your hand at Tai Chi, or experience Brisbane's beautiful climate while you go for a bike ride. Check out the full program for seniors on our What's On calendar.

Council is committed to providing more to see and do for seniors all year round, not just during Seniors Week. See what's coming up at City Hall, or what's happening at your local library.
