Brisbane City Council is working hard to grow your Brisbane lifestyle, and as of 1 October, we’re providing free travel on Brisbane buses, CityCats and ferries from 8.30am-3.30pm and 7pm-6am Monday to Friday, and on buses all day and night on weekends for residents who hold a TransLink seniors go card or Seniors Card +go.
This initiative will create more opportunities for seniors to get out and about exploring our great city and connecting with family and friends without having to pay for travel.
So, get your seniors go card ready, because we have put together a range of free activities to create a fun filled day out that you can visit on the bus or a ferry.
Get active outdoors
Participate in Council’s Active and Healthy program and enjoy Brisbane’s beautiful outdoor climate while working on your fitness! It’s easy to catch a bus, or the CityCat to your nearest park and join in on the fun of group fitness classes like Zumba, Yoga, Pilates – even cross training or boxing!
If group fitness isn’t your style, go for a stroll along one of Council's Heritage Walking Trails or Public Art Trails. With multiple walks located all around the city and suburbs, you’ll be able to catch a bus to which one takes your fancy. You can also enjoy a day on the river by fishing or heading out for a paddle from one of our river recreation hubs, conveniently located at CityCat terminals.
Visit our libraries
Pick up a new best seller at your local Council library or attend one of our many workshops and author talks.
Council operates 33 libraries all over Brisbane, with most open seven days a week, so no matter where your local library is, they are in easy reach of public transport.
Heard of the 50 Plus Centre?
Head along to the 50 Plus Centre in the City Hall basement, conveniently located near major transport hubs in Brisbane CBD, including King Georg Square bus station and the CBD train station not too far way.
You’ll find a variety of events such as dance classes, art classes and card games available for a fun filled morning or afternoon, Monday to Friday.
Enjoy our beautiful Botanic Gardens
There’s an entire world to explore at Brisbane’s two Botanic Gardens. Located on the Brisbane River, the City Botanic Gardens has CityCat and ferry terminals at the bottom end of Edward Street, or bus stops located just outside the Gardens’ entrance. Learn about our city’s flora and fauna by going on guided discovery walk or visiting the Bamboo Grove and Weeping Fig Avenue.
Alternatively, hop on the bus and head up to Council’s premier subtropical Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha, where you can visit Brisbane’s own little slice of zen at the Japanese Gardens or explore the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail with the grandkids!
With so many places to explore, a great day out in Brisbane is now even easier, thanks to free off-peak travel for seniors.
