Lending a creative hand

Brisbane locals are a creative bunch, with our city bursting at the seams with unique artists, budding musicians, cultural precincts, events and more. If you’re a creative or part of a creative group or organisation, your talents are something Council is serious about.

With a hefty target of Brisbane as a vibrant, 24 hour energetic city by 2031, we need your help. Each year, Council calls on local creatives to activate our city by accessing a range of funding, partnerships, performance spaces, events and more to help Brisbane’s creative industries thrive.

And there’s plenty of fun to be had with a range of creative precincts delivered by Council across the city such as Brisbane Powerhouse, SunPAC and Seven Hills Hub offering a range of eclectic shows and events showcasing local and international talent.

Our shared vision

The Creative Brisbane Creative Economy 2013-22 strategy provides a shared vision to strengthen our city’s liveability as a vibrant, creative hub to support local talent as well as attract more talented people to live and work in Brisbane. And with that comes a range of services and support for every creative thought and need.

How do I get started?

Council offers a range of creative grants, awards and fellowships to support budding and established artists, help local organisations host arts, cultural events and festivals and get behind creative enterprises.

Some of these include the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards, Creative Sparks Grants Program and the Innovation Grants Program to name a few.

Younger artists can get a boost through the Lord Mayor’s Young and Emerging Artists Fellowships for ages 17-30. Keep an eye out for the next generation of grant recipients to learn more about our creative talent in Brisbane.

Out and about in the community

Council helps to deliver thousands of markets, festivals and events each year. Festivals are a vital part of our city's cultural, community and creative life and contribute to the lively expression of Brisbane’s diverse cultures.

The annual Brisbane Festival and Brisbane Writers Festival, and biennial Queensland Music Festival offer world class entertainment and high-profile opportunities for Brisbane’s creative workforce.

Council also contracts multiple creative producers every year to deliver a range of free events like BrisAsia Festival and The QUBE Effect, animating and enlivening the city and suburbs and showcasing local creativity and diversity.
