New year, new you: 15 habits to adopt in 2023

The new year is here. Check out our list of 15 habits you might like to commit to for a new and improved 'you' in 2023.

  1. Sashay away the old you and learn a new skills with one of Council's free dancing classes. Whether it's belly dancing or hip hop in Mount Gravatt, there's something for everyone.
     
  2. Step into thousands of new, exciting and unique worlds with a free library membership. Borrow books, e-books or audiobooks and booking in for library events and workshops, like introduction to podcasting.
     
  3. If you've got empty jars in the pantry to reuse, Valerie Pearson's jam making class will have you making the best jam in your neighbourhood in no time.
     
  4. Boost your heart rate and fitness with one of Council's high intensity, cross training workouts.
     
  5. Leave 'one day' behind and find the support to start or grow your business idea with plenty of events on our business events calendar from social media workshops to Council procurement information sessions.
     
  6. Save money and the environment with a visit to one of Council's Treasure Troves where you can find everything from homewares to mountain bikes.
     
  7. Now is the perfect time to take the leap and upsize to a larger recycling bin. You know you want to!
     
  8. Speaking of bins, save yourself that last minute anxiety of trying to figure out which bins need to go out on which week by downloading the Brisbane bin and recycling app.
     
  9. Get your steps up and explore Brisbane's creative side with a trip down one of the city's public art trails.
     
  10.  If you've resolved to learn more about the history of our city this year then the heritage trails are for you, dive into the unique history of 19 suburbs across the city. Keep an eye out for a few new trails coming in 2023.
     
  11. Dive into the new year and make a splash with a trip to one of Council's 22 pools, while you're there make the most of one of our events like deep water running.

  12.  Meet new people and protect your local environment by making 2023 the year you join your local Habitat Brisbane group.
     
  13. Grow your green thumb and commit to gardening this year by finding your nearest community garden
     
  14. Make 2023 your most sustainable year yet when you Grow It Local by growing your own herbs, fruits and vegetables. It's a great way to save money and reduce your food waste.
     
  15.  Reconnect with nature with events and activities at Council's environment centres such as canoeing, guided walks, bird watching and sustainability workshops. There's something for everyone!
