New year, new you - get active and healthy

Outdoor exercise machines Brisbane

With the calendar flicked over to 2019, now’s the perfect time to make a fresh start and commit to a new you! Have fun and get in shape with hundreds of free and low-cost activities on offer from Council across local parks, wetlands, hiking trails and more.

Start the year strong

Forget pricey gym memberships! Work out for free at more than 130 outdoor gyms across Brisbane, where you can rediscover your muscles with chin-ups, crunches and more. While you’re at it, throw in some cardio for a full-body workout with everything from boxing to yoga, strength training and Pilates in parks around Brisbane. Better still, most activities are free or no more than $5 per class.

Age is but a number!

You’re never too old to turn over a new leaf, and our free and low-cost activities for seniors proves that, offering many ways to feel heathier and discover new interests including Tai Chi, yogalates, aqua yoga, square and line dancing or Zumba and Pilates, to name a few.

Get back to nature

Ditch the screens, grab the kids and take in the fresh air. From hiking amongst 370 species of wildlife and 450 native plants at Mt Coot-tha to strolling through native wetlands at Boondall, Downfall Creek and Karawatha, the kids will be saying, “Snap-what?” before you know it.

Wheely fun

Slip, slop, slap and explore Brisbane’s bikeways on two wheels. Plan a day riding along Kedron Brook, Toohey Forest or hitting the Mt Coot-tha trails. Feeling rusty? If you need to brush up on your cycling skills, check out Cycling Brisbane or book in to one of our free bike skills sessions.

Brisbane BMX riders can jump into 360° tailspins or flip trick their deck at local skate or BMX parks. Whether you’re a novice or seasoned pro, the Bracken Ridge BMX track (one of the largest in Australia) will keep you entertained for hours with plenty of freestyle jumps and transitions.

Make a splash!

Take advantage of our subtropical climate and dive into one of 22 local Council pools, where you can learn to swim, join a squad or enjoy laps at your own pace. Dial-up your cardio with a stand up paddle boarding session at Enoggera Reservoir or by learning to windsurf at Sandgate.
