Ekka is back! The much-loved Royal Queensland Show, affectionately known as the Ekka, will return to Brisbane's RNA Showgrounds from 9-18 August. The show brings together the city and country for a celebration of agriculture.
The Ekka showcases the best of Queensland, from award-winning animals, to live entertainment, carnival rides, showbags and delicious food. We've compiled our top favourite things to see and do at this year's event.
Each night of the Ekka, the Main Arena comes alive with two hours of spectacular entertainment. Prepare to be amazed by this free performance and finish your day with a bang watching the stunning fireworks display. Read more about Ekkanites.
Brisbane City Council stand
Drop into Council's stand upstairs in the Royal International Convention Centre for some fun and games with the kids. There'll be activities to enjoy, such as building your own CityCat, bus or Metro model, hitting a round of putt putt, or getting your photo taken in a Metro vehicle cubby. At various times during Ekka, there'll also be the chance to make cute koala puppets, or participate in plant potting sessions.
RACQ Animal Nursery
A family favourite, the RACQ Animal Nursery is home to hundreds of cute and cuddly lambs, calves, ducklings and goats. Children of all ages will love the opportunity to feed, pat, hug, or take a selfie with the baby farmyard animals.
Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion
Foodies will want to make sure they visit the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion with more than 60 food and drink stalls, including the brand-new Royal Queensland Tastes. You can drop in to the Woolworths Fresh Market to meet growers and farmers and learn cooking tips and tricks from a chef.
Green the Street
Take a stroll down Gregory Terrace which will be transformed into a green wonderland, with lush forests, native bees, garden furniture and virtual reality. The Green the Street installation is designed to show how future public streets can enhance our communities.
Ekka Pinball Arcade
The XXXX Stockmen's Bar & Grill will be home to an arcade brimming with 50 pinball machines and 20 original arcade games. Players will have the chance to make world record attempts, attend masterclasses and take part in competitions. The Ekka's Pinball Arcade will also play host to two of the largest pinball and arcade competitions in the Southern Hemisphere - the Brisbane Pinball Masters and Australian Kong Off 3. Don't miss seeing the pinball wizards in action!
Take your pick from thousands of exciting showbags on offer. Indulge in chocolate and sweet-themed bags, get something for the kids with movie and cartoon bags, or choose a showbag based on your favourite magazine or sports team.
No trip to the Ekka is complete without a trip to Sideshow Alley. With thrilling rides, prizes to win and carnival attractions, Sideshow Alley is an undisputed fan favourite. Don't forget to grab the classic strawberry sundae while you're there!
Marvel at the strength and speed of the entrants at the Woodchop and Sawing Competition - another Ekka classic! Running for more than 100 years, with some entrants fourth-generation choppers, this event is a must see.
Get your toes tapping to a wide variety of tunes from pop, jazz, rock, country and multicultural music. Drop in at any of the main stages to see local artists perform, or find them singing their hearts out around the Ekka grounds.
