Council’s new parking permit system

Brisbane City Council works with residents, businesses and local communities to take real action toward creating balanced on-street parking resources for everyone in our local area to use. As part of this, Council has introduced a digital parking permit system to replace the existing paper-based system.

All existing permit holders are being invited to transition to the new permit system in a phased approach between October 2018 to June 2019.

About the new system

Council’s new parking permit system has been introduced to provide a more streamlined process for residents. Once residents have transitioned to the new system, they are no longer required to display a permit in their vehicle.

Other benefits of the new system include:

  • instant application and fast activation of permits when applied for online, via email or over the phone
  • access to a self-managed online portal for residents to manage their permits and applications
  • permit details are stored digitally and linked to registration plates
  • permits are valid for 12 months from the date of application, excluding short-term permits.

Parking Permit Acknowledgement Notices

Council provided all existing permit holders with a free Parking Permit Acknowledgement Notice to use after 30 June 2018. Until you receive notice from Council that your Regulated Parking Permit Scheme Area is transitioning to the new permit system, you must continue to display your Parking Permit Acknowledgement Notice in your vehicle, to be used in accordance with all conditions stipulated on your current parking permit.

After receiving notice from Council, you are required to transition to the new permit system by the dates outlined by Council in the notice to avoid being fined for parking without a valid permit. Your new permit will be valid for a full 12-month period from the date of application.

New permit system transition schedule

All existing permit holders will transition to the new permit system in a phased approach between October 2018 to June 2019. Council will notify all existing permit holders by mail when their Regulated Parking Permit Scheme Area is ready to change to the new system. Residents will have six weeks once contacted by Council, to transition over to the new system.

The parking permit areas in the fourth phase were requested to transition over to the new system by 11.59pm Sunday 12 May 2019. The parking permit areas in the fifth phase were requested to transition over to the new system by 11.59pm Sunday 16 June 2019. There will be information sessions held to assist this fifth phase in using the new system.

If you wish to make changes to your existing permit details but have not yet transitioned, you will need to apply for a new permit using the new system. You will then receive access to a self-managed online portal to manage your permits and applications.
