Active travel events to celebrate in Term 2

Crazy socks school children

Active School Travel’s annual events calendar allows you to plan relevant and engaging events by linking AST to a range of local, national and international days.

The calendar not only gives you the key dates, it also includes some ‘how to’ tips and photos to ensure you keep AST momentum strong and have fun! In term one, schools used ideas from the calendar to create AST events linked to Valentine’s Day, Day of Action Against Bullying, Harmony Day and National Ride2School Day.

For term two, why not think about planning an AST event linking to some of these days:

This table lists the active travel events to be celebrated in term 2.
Date Day Ideas
7 April World Health Day Celebrate the health and fitness benefits of AST.
19-22 April Easter Easter egg hunt and walk with the Easter Bunny or Bilby.
4 May Star Wars Day Dress up as a Star Wars character as you walk or ride.
6-12 May National Road Safety Week Focus on road crossing skills, wear yellow accessories, book a road safety assembly or participate in the RACQ Streets Ahead program.
12 May Mother's Day Actively travel with Mum and enjoy breakfast or time together in the classroom.
17 May Walk Safely to School Day Dress up, organise walking groups or create scavenger hunts as you hit the pavement with schools from around Australia.
5 June World Environment Day Showcase the environmental benefits of leaving the car at home and actively travelling instead.
5 June State of Origin Walk or ride in maroon or blue as you show your support for your team.

These events provide easy ways to promote active travel and build school community networks. For a copy of the full 2019 active travel events calendar, please contact your AST Officer.
