Congratulations to the 2019 School of the Year, Acacia Ridge State School, who combine their Active School Travel (AST), Wellbeing and Positive Behaviour for Learning committees to achieve great success. This strategy of combining teams has streamlined the promotion of all programs, resulting in more participation in active travel activities. In addition to securing free school bikes through community-based organisation TRACTION, Acacia Ridge State School is successfully averaging more than half of the school community actively travelling on their dedicated active travel day.
Congratulations also go to Mansfield State School for winning the 2019 School of Excellence award. In 2019, Mansfield State School was in their third year of the AST program and were achieving an average of 72% of students actively travelling each week, despite being located on a busy road. The school's large AST committee, which includes Year 6 student leaders, discuss and plan reward distribution, promotional activities and group walks to school. The Year 5 students have also created a prototype for an app to collect AST data and to access their active travel map.
Well done to both of our deserving award winners!
