Thousands of high school students across Brisbane catch the bus to school every day yet only a handful of primary school do. The Active School Travel program aims to help primary school students develop the skills they need to travel by bus safely. It’s ideal for the senior students in your school as they prepare to tackle high school and more independent travel.
Bus Buzz is designed to educate students on the practicalities of bus travel as well as appropriate and safe behaviours. It increases the knowledge and confidence of students to catch the bus safely and confidently by covering the following topics:
- preparing for a bus trip and boarding the bus safely
- paying the right fare
- appropriate behaviour on the bus
- what to do when you are unwell, feeling unsafe or in an emergency
- how to safely cross the road after getting off the bus.
The session aims to increase awareness of bus services and motivate families to catch the bus to and from school. A Brisbane City Council bus visits the school and sessions are approximately 30 minutes in duration.
