Council’s Green Heart Schools Student Environmental Leadership Network (SELN) works with high school students and schools to empower young leaders to create real change in their school community.
Whilst this year’s projects are as diverse as energy, waste and gardens, the Year 10 students from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace (known as Terrace) are working to increase active travel in their inner city high school.
Terrace students are working with our Active School Travel (AST) team to explore strategies to encourage more Year 10 students to actively travel, particularly on public transport. Not only do they want to increase the number of students on public transport, they also want to ensure appropriate, safe behaviour on buses and trains.
We look forward to following the progress of this project as the SELN representatives gain knowledge, confidence and leadership skills that will equip them to develop and lead the behaviour change project and achieve sustainable outcomes for their schools.
