The Active School Travel Walk of Fame award recognises the efforts of schools who show an ongoing commitment to Active School Travel (AST), building on their success and demonstrating long-term sustainability. Any school who has worked with Brisbane City Council for more than three years is eligible for this award.
We're pleased to announce Greenslopes State School is our 2019 Walk of Fame winner. Greenslopes first participated when the program launched in 2004 and continues to achieve great success, linking AST to broader community initiatives. AST is led by a team of 36 Year 6 students who run the AST desk, gather statistics, speak on assembly, plan events, manage rewards and produce promotional materials.
In 2019, the Greenslopes AST team decided events and themes should be linked to broader community needs, raising much-needed funds to donate to worthy causes. The school sourced funding from private and public sectors to run bike and scooter skills training for all grades, as well as installing more bike and scooter racks.
Keep up the great work, Greenslopes State School! We look forward to seeing what you will achieve in years to come.
