Walk Safely to School Day

While our schools actively travel every week, Walk Safely to School day - held this year on 22 May 2015 - gives them the chance to join students from all over Australia and include an extra travel day in their week.

Colour, fun and safety were the name of the game with Yeronga State School’s three conga lines, Aspley State School’s cheer squad, Grand Avenue State School’s pirate ship and Corinda State School’s State of Origin walk all attracting a lot of attention.

The largest event was a massive inter-school Park & Stride challenge between Warrigal Rd and Macgregor State Schools. Around 800 students from these schools met in Yimbun Park, Sunnybank, and enjoyed a breakfast and entertainment before walking to their respective schools.

The Australian Islamic College also hit the streets in huge numbers with over 300 students walking to school together from DJ Sherrington Park.

To encourage competition across schools, Tennyson Ward held an inter-school challenge with Junction Park State School’s winning ‘high vis’ day encouraging 84% of students to actively travel.

Congratulations to everyone who literally put their best foot forward.
