About the project
Tidal erosion has damaged sections adjacent to the Jim Soorley Bikeway along the Schulz Canal at Nudgee.
In order to ensure it remains safe and serviceable for the benefit of all users, Council will install sandbags along the shoreline to prevent any further impacts. Wave barriers will also be placed further out to stop damage caused by king tides.
These works are in line with Council’s commitment to improving the quality-of-life of residents, while ensuring our city has the services and infrastructure to meet the needs of future generations.
Project impacts
The impact on the Bikeway will be limited, with the majority of works to be undertaken from a barge.
The Bikeway will be subject to periodic closures as required. During these times, users will be directed to use the pedestrian and cycle path that runs alongside the Gateway Motorway. Detour signs will remain in place until the project is complete. View the project area and detour map.
Users may experience some temporary inconveniences on the Bikeway during the works, including an increase in noise and dust.
Timing
The project is anticipated to start in late August 2020 and be complete by late November 2020.
Works will generally take place between 6.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, the timing of some activities will be affected by the requirement for works to be completed during appropriate tidal conditions.
