About the project

Brisbane City Council is replacing the Kangaloon Street pedestrian bridge in Jindalee, which connects Kangaloon Street with the Jindalee Recreation Reserve.

The existing timber bridge is nearing the end of its serviceable lifespan and in order to maintain a safe crossing, the bridge will be replaced with a new pedestrian crossing.

Works to replace Kangaloon Street bridge will involve:

  • replacing the existing timber bridge with a two metre-wide steel bridge with a concrete deck, including piling works for the new foundations
  • upgrading the footpath approaches at either end of the bridge
  • embankment protection works
  • landscaping works.

Construction

During construction, access via the existing pathway and bridge will be closed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and project workers. Alternative access points are available between Kangaloon Street and the Jindalee Recreation Reserve and detour signage will be in place to direct users.

Council previously advised that nine trees were to be removed as part of this project, however the required number of trees has been reduced to four. While an additional five trees will be monitored during construction with the potential to be removed if required. A tree protection zone will be set up to protect trees within the work area. Tree removal will be offset by planting 24 new trees around the project and in the local area. Council is committed to minimising any impact on the environment. All works will be undertaken in accordance with Council’s offset policies and legislative requirements.

Project Timing

The majority of works will be undertaken between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, however, some out-of-hours works may be required. Council will provide advance notification for any out-of-hours works during construction. Residents in the area can expect construction noise, increased truck movement and low-level vibrations and dust.
