About the project

The existing bridge is nearing the end of its serviceable lifespan and in order to maintain a safe crossing, the bridge will be replaced with a new pedestrian crossing.

The project will include:

  • replacing the existing timber bridge with a two metre-wide steel bridge with a concrete deck
  • upgrading the footpath approaches at either end of the bridge
  • embankment protection works
  • landscaping works.

The project design is now complete, with construction expected to start in mid-2019. Council is committed to keeping local residents informed and will provide more information to the community prior to the start of construction in the coming months.

Council has identified up to nine trees that need to be removed as part of this project. These trees will be removed in consultation with an arborist. Council is committed to minimising any impact on the environment and will undertake offset planting and landscaping after construction.

During construction, access via the existing pathway and bridge will be closed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and project workers. Alternative access points are available between Kangaloon Street and the Jindalee Recreation Reserve and detour signage will be in place to direct users.

Council is committed to keeping local residents informed and will provide more information to the community prior to the start of construction in early 2019.

Benefits

The bridge replacement will improve the safety, accessibility and longevity of the crossing.
