About the project

Council is continuing to install lighting in key sections of the bikeway network to enhance the safety and amenity of the bikeway for all users. These upgrades will encourage increased walking and cycling as part of a safe and accessible network enhancing Brisbane’s environment and minimising traffic congestion.

Project details

This project will involve installing new LED lighting along the existing section of Norman Creek bikeway from Gladys Street to Main Avenue, Stones Corner.

Works will include:

  • open trenching, tunnel boring and vacuum excavation to install light pole foundations, conduits and electrical pits
  • installation of new LED lights and new poles and luminaires
  • electrical cable works
  • turfing.

Please note the lighting will be activated once connected to the power supply by Energex in the weeks following installation.

The program of works is part of Council's plan to get residents home quicker and safer, with improved active transport options as part of Brisbane's growing network of safe, convenient and connected bikeways.

Impacts during construction

Works will generally take place Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work. Some works may also be undertaken on Sundays. Properties and park users in close proximity to the site may experience increased vehicle movements, noise, dust and vibrations during the lighting installation. Council will endeavour to keep this disturbance to a minimum where possible and will provide advance notification of out-of-hours activities.

During construction, temporary partial path closures may be required along the bikeway, however signage will be in place to detour pedestrians and cyclists around the works.

Some tree trimming and removal may also be required to facilitate the installation of lighting. These vegetation impacts will be offset in accordance with Council policies and relevant legislative requirements.

Construction is anticipated to start from mid-June 2020 and will take approximately three months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
