About the project

The existing bridge is nearing the end of its serviceable lifespan and in order to maintain a safe crossing, the bridge will be replaced before the end of its lifespan with a new shared pedestrian and cyclist creek crossing.

Due to weathering, the existing steel structure is no longer feasible to maintain and will be removed and replaced with a prefabricated steel structure, to be lifted into place by crane.

Project impacts

While this work is undertaken, the existing bridge is required to be closed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and project workers. During this time, cyclists and pedestrians will be directed to use an alternative route along Acacia Avenue and Earnshaw Road. View the detour map (4.1Mb).

The majority of works will be undertaken from Station Avenue and street lighting will be temporarily switched off due to the positioning of a large crane. Once the new bridge is installed and the crane moved, street lighting will resume.

While these works are undertaken, nearby residents and businesses may experience an increase in noise, dust and vehicle movements with reversing beepers and flashing lights. Work hours will be between 6.30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Council has identified one tree that is required to be removed as part of this project. This tree will be removed in consultation with a Council arborist. Council is committed to minimising any impact on the environment and will undertake offset planting and landscaping after construction as required.

Timing

Construction is anticipated to start mid-July 2020 and be complete late August 2020, weather and construction conditions permitting.
