About the project

The intersection of Azalea and Eugenia Street in Inala was identified for an upgrade to improve safety as part of the Australian Government's Black Spot Program. The upgrade will provide safety improvements for all road users.

The Black Spot Program is part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce crashes on Australian roads and improve road safety by implementing upgrade measures such as roundabouts, traffic signals and upgrades appropriate to each black spot location.

The Azalea Street and Eugenia Street intersection was identified for an upgrade due to a relatively high crash rate with eight reported crashes between July 2012 and December 2018. The crashes resulted in five hospitalisations and three incidents requiring medical treatment. All of these incidents resulted from vehicles on Eugenia Street failing to give-way to through traffic on Azalea Street.

This project will improve road safety for all road users by enhancing sightlines and visibility for motorises travelling through the intersection from Eugenia Street.
