Sutling Street bridge replacement project – Chapel Hill and Kenmore
Brisbane City Council is replacing the existing timber pedestrian bridge in Cubberla Creek Reserve, between Sutling Street, Chapel Hill and Akuna Street Kenmore, to improve accessibility and safety.
|Address||Cubberla Creek Reserve|
|Project outcomes||Improved safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists|
|Latest update||Start of construction to commence in late July 2019|
About the project
The existing one metre-wide timber bridge at Cubblera Creek Reserve is nearing the end of its lifespan. Council is planning to replace the timber bridge with a new 11 metre-long, 3.2 metre-wide steel bridge to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrian and cyclists. The new bridge will have a steel truss design and will maintain the alignment of the existing bridge.
The project will involve:
- removing the existing bridge structure
- piling works to construct the new bridge foundation
- installing the new steel truss bridge and handrails
- reconstructing sections of footpath leading up to the new bridge.

- Sutling Street bridge replacement project plan (Word - 1.4Mb).
Construction will start from late July 2019 and is expected to be completed in late 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Construction will generally take place Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm. Council will provide advance notice for any out-of-hours works during construction. Residents in close proximity to the works may experience construction noise, increased truck movements and low level vibration and dust.
The bridge will be temporarily closed for the duration of the works. A detour will be in place (refer to attached project plan) with signage to direct pedestrians and cyclists.
Council has identified two camphor laurel trees that may require trimming to allow for piling works and placement of the bridge structure. A qualified arborist will be onsite to supervise these works and ensure the tree trimming works are carried out in accordance with Council's environmental policies.
