Logan Road and Birdwood Road black spot project - Holland Park West
Brisbane City Council is undertaking works at the Logan Road and Birdwood Road intersection in Holland Park West to improve safety for all road users as part of the 2019-20 Australian Government Black Spot Program.
|Address||Logan Road and Birdwood Road, Holland Park West|
|Project outcomes||Improved safety|
|Latest update||Construction started in early September 2019|
About the project
The Black Spot Program is part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce crashes on Australian roads. The program aims to reduce crashes and improve road safety by implementing upgrade measures such as roundabouts and traffic signals appropriate to each black spot location.
The intersection has experienced a relatively high crash rate with 13 reported crashes at the intersection between January 2013 and December 2018, all of which resulted from right-turn movements from Logan Road to Birdwood Road.
The project involves:
- extending the existing right-turn lane from Logan Road on to Birdwood Road
- modifying the right-turn pocket from Logan Road to Raff Avenue
- installing new yellow no stopping lines
- installing new median islands
- removing informal on-street parking on Birdwood Road
- road resurfacing, new kerb and channel and line marking.

Impacts during construction
Construction is scheduled to start the week commencing early September and is expected to be completed by late 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
The majority of works will take place at night between 7pm-5am, Sunday to Thursday, when traffic volumes are lowest to ensure the safety of motorists and works and to minimise traffic disruptions. Some works will also be required to be undertaken between 7pm-5am on Fridays throughout the project.
Where possible, noisier works (such as saw cutting of the road) will occur during the day or prior to 11pm. However, residents may still experience increased lighting and some noise after 11pm from plant and machinery operating throughout the night/morning.
Temporary traffic changes and lane closures will be required to allow work to be completed and motorists should expect delays when travelling through the area. Look for warning signage and follow the direction of traffic controllers.
Construction started in early September and is expected to be completed by late 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Council is committed to minimising the impact of the works on the community as much as possible. Council thanks local residents in advance for their understanding during these important works to improve road safety.
