Construction update

The majority of construction works will be undertaken at night and will take place between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, when traffic volumes are lowest to ensure the safety of motorists and workers and to minimise traffic disruptions. Temporary lane closures may be required and traffic controllers will be onsite to assist motorists. Where possible, day works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday to minimise disruption to the local community at night.

The speed limit in the area will be temporarily reduced to 40km/h while works are being carried out. Safety is Council’s number one priority and traffic controllers and signage will be in place to assist all road users, and variable message signs located along the project length will provide commuters with information as works progress.

During construction, residents and businesses in close proximity to the works may experience construction noise, increased truck movements and low levels of vibration and dust. The project team will be working hard to minimise construction impacts on the local community and is happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.

Council is committed to keeping the community informed of construction in their area and will provide advance notification of out-of-hours works, including particularly noisy works, major access changes and disruptions to property access or services.

Project timing

Construction is scheduled to start in April 2019 and will be complete in mid-2019. Council is committed to keeping local residents, businesses and road users informed and will update the community as works progress.

Environmental impacts

In order to widen Old Cleveland Road, Council has identified a number of trees that need to be removed. The vegetation impacts will be offset by the planting of four trees for every one removed in the local area and will be undertaken in accordance with Council’s environmental policies and relevant legislative requirements.
