About the project

We have upgraded the intersection at Fig Tree Pocket Road and Kenmore Road in Fig Tree Pocket to improve safety, congestion and traffic efficiency for all road users by creating a four-way intersection, installing traffic signals and installing fully controlled crossing facilities. 

Funding

The Fig Tree Pocket Road and Kenmore Road intersection upgrade was jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Australian Government as part of the Roads to Recovery program.

Project features

Below is a summary of the works undertaken as part of the project.

  • Undertaking bank stabilisation works on the eastern side of Fig Tree Pocket Road.
  • Installing traffic lights and realigning the intersection to a four-way intersection with Kenmore Road, Fig Tree Pocket Road and Errogie Place.
  • Providing fully controlled crossing facilities for people walking and riding.
  • Creating a dedicated right-turn lane and one additional through lane on Kenmore Road on the south-west approach to the intersection.
  • Creating a dedicated right-turn lane from Fig Tree Pocket Road into Errogie Place.
  • Upgrading the current left-in and left-out at Errogie Place to full access.
  • Relocating the outbound bus stop (#37) from the northern leg to the south-eastern leg of Fig Tree Pocket Road (approximately 100m away).
  • Installing a yellow no stopping line to formalise fully restricted parking on Kenmore Road and Fig Tree Pocket Road.
  • Constructing new traffic islands and centre medians and completing new road surfacing, line marking and landscaping including tree planting and turfing.

Project benefits

  • Improved safety for all road users by installing traffic lights and signalised pedestrian crossing facilities.
  • Improved travel time reliability and overall operation of intersection by controlling all movements with traffic lights.
  • Improved pedestrian connectivity to public transport and residential areas with new pram ramps and footpaths.

Project timing

Works commenced in mid-2022 and were successfully completed in late December 2023.
